There were many popular posts on Instagram this year. While this could easily be a list of the most liked pictures on the social media outlet, we looked for posts that didn't always get people double tapping, but did get them talking. Here are a few that created headlines and waves this year.

Sofia Vergara

This year, the actress got married to actor Joe Manganiello. Instead of giving a magazine the rights to her wedding photos, the Colombian superstar shared photos from her special day on Instagram on Nov. 23. Included in the photos she shared was one taken during the moment that she and Manganiello were being married in front of their friends and families.

Eva Longoria

How often do you get to see this many Latino stars together and behaving in such a funny manner? On Sept. 3, Longoria shared a photo of herself with actors Kate Del Castillo, Carlos Ponce, Jencarlos Canela, and Amaury Nolasco goofing off, while they were filming scenes for Longoria's new NBC show "Telenovela."

Gina Rodriguez

Like most celebrities, Rodriguez shared photos of her first People en Español cover shoot. While the actress did get support from her fans, many criticized the star's Spanish and look, causing her to respond to the bullying.

"We desire to project our own insecurities and hatred on another. When did we decide social media was for hating, for putting others down rather than lifting them up. I refuse to participate in that kind of world," she captioned the picture in August.

Selena Gomez

The "Hands to Myself" singer had several popular Instagram posts this year, including one that revealed the now famous cover for her latest album "Revival," which she shared on Sept. 8.

The photo was surprising and created headlines because of the star's choice to go almost completely nude, helping her revamp her image. The post currently has over 2.1 million likes on Instagram. The star also had one of the most liked photos of the year, with 2.3 million likes for a selfie she took inside a car.

William Levy

The most popular post from the Cuban actor wasn't even about himself, but about the mother of his children, Elizabeth Gutiérrez. In the post, Levy defended Gutiérrez against critics who attacked her choice to join him in South Africa with their children.

"Apart from being the most dedicated mother, the most respectful and a fighter, she is an excellent and real professional incapable of making a decision that would affect her coworkers. This decision that Elizabeth took to leave the show was with good intentions to make our children happy and without trying to ruin anyone," Levy captioned the photo.

Jennifer Lopez

Lopez owes part of her fame to Selena Quintanilla, since her starring role in the film about the late superstar's life made Lopez a household name. This year, the star paid tribute to the music legend by performing some of her hits with Los Dinos at the 2015 Latin Billboard Awards in April. She shared photos of the performance, and of her and the Quintanilla's families backstage on her Instagram account.

Elizabeth Gutiérrez

This #MCM post of a shirtless Levy, shared by the telenovela actress, got fans and media outlets all worked up because it had been a while since Gutiérrez had posted anything about him. The two were part of various split rumors and have been keeping their relationship under wraps, but while vacationing in the Dominican Republic, she couldn't hold back.

Aventura

The group surprised fans when they announced that they would be reuniting for the very last time next year. They will be performing in February at several sold-out shows in New York's Palace Theater.

The announcement was posted by several of the group's members, including lead singer, and now solo artist, Romeo Santos.

Demi Lovato

Fans of both Lovato and Gomez were excited to see this particular post of the two pop singers goofing off for the camera because it had been a while since the former best friends were spotted together.

The two have previously admitted to growing apart, but recently reconnected, and they have shown support for one another since. The two even released their albums, "Confident" and "Revival," a week apart in October.

Shakira

The music superstar shared a stunning family photo with her followers on Instagram in January. At the time, the singer was still pregnant with her second son, Sasha. She showed off her growing baby bump, along with her firstborn son, Milan, and partner Gerard Piqué. While the photo itself was nice, the star's message about the World Baby Shower with UNICEF made it that much more memorable. Even when she was the one pregnant, the Colombian star, known for being very charitable, was thinking about helping others.
