Aaron Hernandez showed up for his latest court appearance sporting a new jailhouse neck tattoo, fueling speculation the former NFL star has joined a street gang since being locked behind bars on murder charges.

According to Fox News, widespread speculation is Hernandez may have aligned himself with the Bloods street gang.

The former New England Patriots tight end is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole at the Souza-Baranowski maximum security prison, after being found guilty in the 2013 execution style killing of former associate Odin Lloyd.

As for his new ink, the words "Lifetime Loyalty" appear above a five-pointed star, with the "Y" at the end of "loyalty" replaced by a hand making the hang-loose surfing gesture. Law enforcement officials are convinced the star serves as a symbol of the Bloods gang. The tattoo was not present during his first murder trial.

In addition to already being jailed as the trigger-man in the Lloyd killing, Hernandez also faces double murder charges in the 2012 drive-by killings of Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu outside a downtown Boston nightclub.

Several media outlets have reported Hernandez opened fire on both of his unsuspecting victims after one of them accidentally spilled a drink on him earlier in the evening and failed to apologize.

Hernandez was most recently in court in connection with that case, which had initially been scheduled to take place sometime early next year. At the behest of both sides, a judge has since postponed the start of those proceedings.

Not long before being taken into custody in the Lloyd case, the now 26-year-old Hernandez had signed a $40 million extension with the Patriots as one of star quarterback Tom Brady's emerging targets.

Soon after his arrest, New England took legal action to have the remainder of the deal completely voided.
