NFL San Francisco 49ers Football Star Aldon Smith Arrested at LAX Airport for Bomb Scare [VIDEO]
In terms of stupid moves, Aldon Smith of the San Francisco 49ers may have committed the dumbest one of the day -- and quite possibly all of 2014 -- when he said "bomb" in an airport. That move landed him in jail and has put his career with the San Francisco 49ers at risk.
TMZ Sports obtained a copy of the video of the incident, and the evidence is pretty clear-cut. While at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport), TSA asked the athlete the same question they ask any of the other mortals that go through security. Apparently, however, Smith thought he was above the law, and cracked a sarcastic remark. National security is no laughing matter in this day and age, however, and his remark earned him a set of handcuffs.
The exchange went as follows:
TSA officer: Unzip your bag please, sir.
Smith: I'm Aldon Smith. Unzip my bag?
TSA officer: Yes, please. Unzip your bag, sir.
Smith (yelling sarcastically): What do you think -- I have a bomb?
TSA officer (panicked): He has a bomb!
In case the events of 9/11 taught us nothing, NO ONE -- black or white, famous or ordinary -- is allowed to yell "bomb" in an airport. It's a Federal offense.
An official for TSA released a statement to TMZ Sports, saying that Smith "became belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent making a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding toward the gate area." Smith, who has a long history of arrests and violence, was also uncooperative reportedly and resisted arrest.
CBS obtained a statement from San Francisco 49ers' general manager Trent Baalke:
"We are disappointed to learn of the incident today involving Aldon Smith. As this is a pending legal matter and we are still gathering the pertinent facts, we will have no further comment."
