Fans of "The Vampire Diaries" can expect the show to explore dark and surprising twists when the second half of Season 7 airs next month.

During an interview with TVLine, executive producer Caroline Dries revealed that the midseason premiere will kick off with a "really cool concept episode" that will leave viewers asking, "What show am I watching?" She added that the vampire drama will also deal "with the fallout from the winter finale for a while, both emotionally and plot-wise."

The EP also dropped spoilers about Caroline's (Candice King) pregnancy with Alaric's (Matthew Davis) unborn Gemini twins.

"The babies inside Caroline will have to come out sooner or later," she said.

Meanwhile, Dries told TVLine's Michael Ausiello that fans should not hold their breath waiting for Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) to return anytime soon. According to the producer, the writers have "talked about it here and there, but nothing is firm. Sometimes, we say, 'Wouldn't it be nice if blah blah blah,' but none of the stories are driving towards anything yet."

A promo from the upcoming episode, which is titled "Hell Is Other People," reveals that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will be mentally and emotionally unstable after being raised from the dead. In the preview video, Damon appears to return after being dead for three months. He also seems to have lost touch with reality, attacking Caroline while screaming, "None of this is real."

Another clip from the episode reveals that Stefan (Paul Wesley) is in jeopardy of not being able to come back at all.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Julie Plec teased that the rest of the season will largely focus on "exploring the dynamic between the [Salvadore] brothers and the lengths that they're willing to go to protect each other but also epic ways that they have disappointed each other and have continued to do so. It's a really powerful brother storyline that I'm really excited about."

"The Vampire Diaries" returns Friday, Jan. 29, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
