Despite the possibility of having to wait until the brink of 2016, the PlayStation Plus free games list for January 2016 was posted by Sony right on time. Here's the full list of free titles for PS4, PS3, and the PS Vita that PS Plus members can download, starting the first week of the new year.

PlayStation decided to run with a few updated classics and fan favorites for its top PS Plus free games coming to the PS4 this January 2016.

Early on Wednesday, PlayStation first announced the upcoming free games for the PlayStation 4 in a YouTube video:

So the free titles for PlayStation Plus members using a PS4 are officially the PS2 classic-inspired update Hardware: Rivals and the HD remake of Grim Fandango, Grim Fandango Remastered.

Hardware: Rivals

Harkening back to the days of Twisted Metal, the Hardware: Rivals is a Sony in-house produced follow-up to the PlayStation 2 game Hardware: Online Arena, a multiplayer driving shooter which was one of the first online multiplayer games for that platform.

Grim Fandango Remastered

The only cross-buy PS Plus title for this January 2016, Grim Fandango Remastered is the modern update to the classic game first produced by LucasArts in 1998.

It's quite a unique experience. As the PlayStation blog announcement put it, "As Manny Calavera, travel agent for the Department of Death, you'll guide poor souls to their eternal rest. Crime. Skeletons. Romance."

This adventure game has it all, and it's all wrapped up in a distinctive aesthetic world inspired by Mexican folklore. Grim Fandango Remastered will be available for PS4 and PS Vita.

PlayStation 3 Freebies

For the PS3, two big AAA titles from back in the day will be available next week, both from EA. The first is the addictive fan favorite RPG, Dragon Age: Origins.

Also available is Metal of Honor Warfighter -- which was critically panned -- but keep in mind, that was in the days before "modern war" multiplayer shooters became truly ridiculous.

PS Vita-Only Titles

In addition to the Grim Fandango Remastered cross-buy, PlayStation Plus is making Legends of War Patton and Nihilumbra available for free for the PS Vita this January.

All six of these games will be available for free download to all PS Plus subscribers on Tuesday, January 5 2016.
