The pieces continue to come together for the much anticipated movie adaptation of the raunchy bestselling novel "50 Shades of Grey." A director has finally signed on to guide the movie towards the box office, and now, there are rumors coming in that a superhero is set to play the lead role.

Sam Taylor-Johnson (also known as Taylor-Wood) has been chosen to direct the film. She is an interesting choice for the role, considering she has only one feature-length film credit to her name -- 2009's "Nowhere Boy." Still, those associated with the movie have complete confidence in her abilities.

"Sam's unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia's relationship to life," the film's producer Michael De Luca told Deadline.

Taylor-Johnson is no stranger to both challenges and publicity. She received plenty of attention after starting up a relationship with "Nowhere Boy" Aaron Johnson (then 19) when she was 42-years-old. The director has also had to overcome a serious bout with cancer.

"I took on cancer like I take on everything -- like a mission and a job to accomplish," she told Harper's Bazaar. "I'd look at Angelica and say, 'There's no option here. I've got to fight through it.' I had to have major abdominal surgery, and they said, 'You can't hold your baby.' It was terrible."

Now with the director selected, attention can finally turn to pinpointing exactly who will make up the cast of this sure-fire blockbuster. Taylor-Johnson will have the ultimate decision on whom to choose but has yet to give any formal indication of who she will select for the highly-coveted roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.

The fans have already weighed in to some extent, however, and if they get their way, the leading male role goes by just one name: Superman. Henry Cavill, star of the hit Superman adaptation "Man of Steel," is now regarded as the primary candidate for the role of Grey. 

"Henry has always seemed to be fans' top choice, and he himself has admitted that with the right script and director, he would be interested in playing the part," according to the gossip site Celeb Dirty Laundry.

It's likely that Man of Steel's performance at the box office could be a contributing factor towards Cavill landing the role. Scoring over $116 million on its opening weekend, Cavill propelled the film to record-breaking status, and his draw with audiences couldn't seem to be much higher at the moment.
