The New York Yankees are not done making moves in the offseason as they are discussing a deal with the Miami Marlins regarding a possible trade involving starting pitcher Ivan Nova. The 28-year-old right-hander just came off a Tommy John surgery and returned last June.

In a report by Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Marlins are interested in Nova as a back-end starter with the Yankees possibly deciding on a trade over the next month before the start of spring training on Feb. 18. The Yankees currently have seven starting pitchers on the roster including Nova, Nathan Eovaldi, Bryan Mitchell, Michael Pineda, CC Sabathia, Luis Severino and Masahiro Tanaka.

The report noted that the Yankees may look for a prospect or an MLB-ready outfielder from Miami with Marcell Ozuna as a possible candidate, but he could cost more than just Nova. However, the New York Post mentioned in a previous report that Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and the rest of the front office are not selling low on Nova despite a down year following his TJ surgery.

The belief in the Yankees organization is that Nova will have a better season in 2016 because he will be more than a year removed from his surgery. The team uses that belief to convince interested teams and adds the fact that the right-hander will be playing for more money.

Nova is set to make $4.5 million next season and will be a good addition for contending teams looking for cost-efficient players. If the Yankees decide to hold on to the 28-year-old pitcher, he will end up as a long reliever and fill in as a spot starter. Most of the team's starting pitchers have health concerns, but Nova is considered expensive in his current role.

The six-year veteran has spent his entire career with the Yankees, making his debut in 2010. He posted a 16-4 record with a 3.70 ERA in his first full season in 2011, coming in fourth in the AL Rookie of the Year voting, per Baseball Reference.

He struggled in his return, posting a 5.06 ERA in 17 starts before being relegated to the bullpen at the start of September. Nova failed to find his command and has been inconsistent throughout his Yankees career. According to NJ Advance Media Group, he is still well-liked in the clubhouse and team officials are very happy with his work ethic during his TJ surgery rehab.
