Paula Patton and Robin Thicke Divorce News: Alan Thicke Talks Reality Show And His Son's Failing Marriage
Growing Pains actor Alan Thicke may be father to the famous R&B crooner Robin Thicke, but don't expect to see much of Robin or his relationship drama with Paula Patton on his father's new "semi-reality" show called Unusually Thicke.
"You won't see his drama," Alan told E! news. "You'll see a couple of appearances, cameos by Robin checking up on me.
He added, "Of course, I'm happy to exploit him as much as possible. He's clearly an important part of the family and good enough to participate a little bit."
As to if he feels the estranged couple will reconcile, Alan responded with, "I hope whatever they decide to do will make them both happy. That's the key thing. You want your kids to be happy. They're strong, smart and talented people and they'll make great decisions."
So what exactly can we expect from Unusually Thicke?
Alan explained on the Today show that his show will be reality TV with a twist.
"We're kind of a pseudo-reality, quasi-comedy, semi-fictional fun fest. We're kind of Honey Boo Boo meets Larry David. (We're) looking for that sweet spot. It's a real family in real-life situations, but with a bit of a wink to a sitcom plot, if you will. So we deal with things that are really happening."
Hmm... interesting.
Among the story lines that we can expect from the show include Alan being inducted into Canada's Hall of Fame, Alan's younger wife Tanya wanting more kids, Alan's 'male enhancement' endorsement deal, and of course one of the biggest dramas surrounding the Thicke family; Tanya's mom who was accused of murder last year.
"We didn't deal with it on the show in a way we could get laughs, but hopefully we show how you distract and compartmentalize and deal with these things," Alan said about his mother-in-law. "But it couldn't just be ignored on the show."
Let's see how they address that heavy hitter on the show. Unusually Thicke premieres on Wednesday at 10 p.m. on TV Guide Network.
