‘Daredevil’ Season 2 News: Release Date Clashes with ‘Batman V Superman’
Superhero fans should mark their calendars now because there is one day this spring that is going to be very busy for them. The release date for Season 2 of Netflix mega-hit show "Daredevil" has been announced for March 25.
According to Comic Book, which cited "independent sources" for the information, the show is about to go head-to-head with another project in the superhero genre that is expecting to bring in a massive box office haul on March 25: "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
If the information turns out to be true, there could be a major war on the horizon between Marvel Comics, which owns "Daredevil," and DC Comics, which is putting out the new film.
Marvel has already dominated the box office in the genre, with many of the films in its cinematic universe making serious bank. Couple that with the success of their TV universe on Netflix, and fans can assume that they are trying to maintain the top spot in both media.
Although "Daredevil" Season 2 is being released on the same day as "Batman v Superman," that will not likely stop fans from going to see the film. For those who choose to stay at home and binge-watch the season, there is a good chance that they will also be going to see the film as well soon after.
Subscribers to Netflix have buffet streaming rights and will likely opt to put off streaming the show until they have had a chance to go see a movie that has been building massive amounts of buzz and momentum.
Still, this could also be a show of strength by Marvel, a message to its closest competitor that they are willing to fight for viewers. Much of the hype last year was claimed by the emerging DC cinematic universe, despite the release of another "Avengers" sequel. The Marvel film did have a big box office haul, but it still fell nearly $200 million shy of its predecessor.
