"Clash of Clans" is one of the most wildly successful games on the mobile platform, if not the most. It put developer Supercell on the map and now the team has created a new title that is similar enough to the hit game to attract its loyal following: "Clash Royale".

According to a report from Gotta Be Mobile, "Clash Royale" is not a sequel to the original, but it is a spin-off sharing a lot of the same troops, characters, elixir, mortars and other features. What will likely set this brand new game apart is the fact that it brings together two popular genres in one title: card collecting and real-time multiplayer.

In the new game, players will collect cards of the Clash troops, Royales, baby dragons, spells and more, and their collection -- dubbed the Battle Deck -- can be utilized to attack in a turn-based multiplayer battle. The users will be able to choose whether they want to play with friends or use the standard system of multiplayer games.

A report from the Pocket Gamer revealed that the goal of the game is to destroy the opponents' towers and bring down their king, all while defending the players' kingdom with the various tools and features at their disposal.

Like in its parent game, there is the option to build a Clan and share powerful cards. Players can look forward to the introduction of colorful new characters such as princes, knights and baby dragons, as well as the re-emergence of familiar characters from "Clash of Clans".

"Clash Royale" marked its soft launch this week on iOS. It has not yet been confirmed if or when the game will be landing on the Android devices. The limited release is also only available in the following countries: Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, New Zealand and Supercell's own home country Finland.

The new game might help the developer after the last major update for "Clash of Clans" left plenty of the long-time fans unsatisfied and disappointed. A report from Design & Trend revealed that known "Clash of Clans" enthusiast Chief Pat has even expressed his dismay at the changes in the game.

Some of the complaints include the difficulty in loot farming, changed rules in free shields and scarcity of upgrade opportunities. While Supercell has made a few minor adjustments for the game, much of the major shortcomings of the new update has gone unresolved.
