Playboy Mansion for Sale With $200 Million Price Tag and Hugh Hefner ‘Life Estate’
The Playboy Mansion is one of the most famous -- and infamous -- houses in the world, and now it's up for sale. Those who want to call home the setting of some of the entertainment industry's wildest, most legendary parties can now purchase the sprawling estate for a hefty price tag with a pretty famous resident in tow.
According to a report from TMZ, the historic residence will be out in real estate listings by next month. Built in 1927, the 6 acre Holmby Hills property will likely fetch a great sum -- although sources told TMZ that the $200 million price tag that the owners are expecting are probably too much for the value of the house. A realistic cost is reportedly between $80 million and $90 million.
It's not just the large price tag that might put off prospective buyers from purchasing the lot. Insiders revealed that the buyer of the Playboy Mansion should also expect a permanent housemate: Hugh Hefner. TMZ reported that the sale includes a "life estate" for the original Playboy, which means Hefner will be able to live in the mansion for the rest of his life.
Additionally, prospective buyers will be able to tour the entirety of the estate, except Hefner's private bedroom.
The Playboy Mansion isn't the only Playboy property to have seen the "For Sale" sign in recent years. According to a report from Variety, the 2.28-acre property next door where Hefner's ex-wife Kimberley Conrad and their children lived since 1996 was sold in 2009 for $18 million. The Bunny House across the street, also known as the residence of prospective Playboy "Bunnies", was also sold in 2013 for $10 million.
Playboy Enterprise has marked a number of significant changes recently. Not only is it putting its home for sale, but the company also announced their decision to stop publishing nude photos last year. In an interview with New York Times, chief executive Scott Flanders explained that times change and the internet played a big part in edging out the Playboy magazine in the pleasures it used to offer.
"That battle has been fought and won," he said. "You're now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free. And so it's just passé at this juncture."
Final cover girl for the Playboy era Pamela Anderson agreed in an interview with ET Online.
"It's hard to compete with the Internet," she said. "And the girl next door doesn't exist anymore. She's taking selfies down her shirt, like, you know, there's no mystery over there anymore. It doesn't have that same charm and innocence that it used to."
