Anderson Silva Won't Retire Soon, Vows to Prove Doubters Wrong
Anderson Silva is looking to prove his doubters wrong when he meets Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 83 inside the O2 Arena at London, England on Feb. 27. The 40-year-old legend also insisted that he is not close to retiring and has plans to recapture the UFC middleweight belt he held for six years.
"After my last fight, I had a discussion with my family, explained to my kids what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, and my kids are completely supporting me and that, with my family's support and my motivation, I'm here and I'm going to fight for as long as my body and my motivation last," Silva said in a media conference call for UFC Fight Night 83.
"A lot of people think it's crazy. A lot of people think that it's impossible. So with all those people thinking that, that's what is motivating me to prove them wrong and follow my dream," he added as quoted by MMA Weekly.
Silva is 0-2-1 in his last three fights with his January 2015 win over Nick Diaz being turned to a no-contest after failing a post-fight drug test for performance enhancing drugs. He was subsequently suspended for one year by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and was fined $380,000, per MMA Frenzy.
"The Spider" also lost twice against Chris Weidman in 2013 and is not far removed from his left fibula and tibia injury. Many fans, critics, and fighters have called on for the retirement of Silva, but one of the greatest MMA fighters of all-time is on a mission.
However, "The Count" has other plans in mind when they meet in his hometown. "I'm signing on this contract to fight this guy to beat him, to knock him out, to end his career. So I'm going to give him zero respect once that cage door shuts. Just going to fight my fight," Bisping said on the same conference call via Yahoo! Sports.
Bisping is planning to use his aggressiveness and utilize a lot of movement. He added the he is going to take the fight to Silva, but he will be very careful in his approach. He also plans to throw "The Spider" off his game by not being scared entering the Octagon.
The brash Brit is coming from an elbow injury, but he is 3-1 in his last four fights including wins over Cung Le, C.B. Dollaway and former middleweight title challenger, Thales Leites. His only defeat came from his fight against current champion, Luke Rockhold. A win over Silva certainly puts Bisping in the driver seat as the next challenger for the belt.
