Stephen King’s ‘11/22/63’ Miniseries Releases New Full-Length Trailer [Watch]
Although author Stephen King is perhaps most well-known for horror stories, he has recently tried his hand at a time-travel thriller, "11/22/63." Now that the runaway bestseller has been optioned for a television miniseries by J.J. Abrams, the first full-length trailer has been released.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new show coming exclusively to the Hulu streaming service is going to be an eight-episode event based on the novel. It is a historical fiction piece that delves into alternative history once the story starts to take shape.
The series is about Jake Epping, who has been introduced to a portal that lies in the hall closet of a burger joint. Once he enters the portal, he is mysteriously placed back at a specific date in 1960 (which differs from the book at 1958).
After he has an opportunity to explore the portal, he and his friend embark on a mission to stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, which occurs in reality on Nov. 22,1963.
The thriller really starts to take shape when he passes through the portal and must wait three years before he can accomplish his goal. The portal will not send him to the moment of the assassination, only to the specific date in 1960. So he must go to that time period and find some way to pass the time.
Here is where the supernatural element takes shape. The official logline for the series is that the "past does not like to be changed." So in several instances, it appears as though Father Time is trying to kill him, or at least scare him into leaving, by putting him in situations where he is nearly killed, one by one.
Fans of King and Abrams can watch the trailer for the series below. It will premiere on Hulu next month on Feb. 15. There has been no word yet whether all episodes will be immediately available or if they will be released in installments for subscribers.
