Rolling Stone has released the full 17-minute long video interview that Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán granted to actor Sean Penn.

According to Rolling Stone, months before the video was made, Penn secretly traveled through the Mexican jungle to meet with the fugitive drug lord. Although it proved impossible to conduct the interview in person, Penn forwarded questions to Guzman via BBM and El Chapo agreed to record his responses on videotape.

In the video, Guzmán talked about his poverty-stricken childhood and mentioned selling bread, oranges and soda as a boy.

When asked about his family situation, Guzmán was positive.

“My children, my brothers, my nephews. We all get along well … very normal,” he said.

Guzmán admitted that drugs were destructive but did not see himself as to blame for their demand.

“The day I don’t exist, it’s not going to decrease in any way at all ... drug trafficking,” he said.

Penn has come under fire for his Rolling Stone article, in which Guzmán seemed to brag about being the world's leading supplier of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana.

The actor claims to have no regrets about the secret interview, BBC reports.

Guzmán was captured on Jan. 8, three months after meeting with Penn and six months after escaping from prison.

As previously reported, a video of El Chapo’s arrest was released on Monday to Mexican station Televisa. The footage shows Mexican marines shooting at El Chapo's men as the drug lord attempted to escape from the house he was hiding at in the state of Sinaloa.

The U.S. has filed a request for Guzman to be extradited to face charges of smuggling drugs into the country.
