Supergirl Actress From ‘Smallville’ to Play Villain on ‘Supergirl’
As is characteristic of many shows in the DC TV arena, CBS has recycled an actress from a previous show, "Smallville," for a role on "Supergirl."
Reusing actors is a common practice, as many of these shows have huge cult followings and their fans tend to get somewhat excited for cameos from recognizable stars.
According to Deadline, actress Laura Vandervoort has been cast to appear in a recurring guest role on "Supergirl" as Indigo, a villain in the comic book source material who also happens to be a Kryptonian.
Fans may remember Vandervoort as the actress who took on the role of Kara Zor-El in the CW adaptation of the Kryptonian franchise, "Smallville." She appeared on the show as both Kara and her alter ego Supergirl, alongside Tom Welling's Clark Kent.
"Smallville" was an origin story series of sorts for the famed character of Superman. It took place in modern times, and many fans took to the show very well, even with its obvious blunders to the comic canon.
Vandervoort is currently in negotiations for the new role. The villain has been described by the producers as a supercomputer from the planet Krypton. Her strong will forced her to pursue her own ambitions, which would eventually get her imprisoned, following her actions against her own people.
Her powers on Krypton paled in comparison to what she is capable of on Earth. Now that she has landed on the planet, the sky is the limit for what she can accomplish. It appears as though it will take Supergirl herself to stop the new villain, given most Earthly natives and their technology are no match for Indigo's abilities.
The villain will also be pursued on Earth by the Master Jailer, a character who is known to take no mercy on his inmates. That means that Supergirl may have an unlikely ally in the fight against Indigo.
