Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners Being Recalled for Mislabeled Packaging
About 96,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners have been recalled by Kraft Foods Group, Inc., because of a packaging mix-up.
According to a news release from the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, it's been discover Oscar Mayer Classic Cheese Dogs may be included in at least some of the Classic Wiener packages.
Aside from being mislabeled with the wrong product name, any of the packages containing the Classic Cheese Dogs also don't cite the inclusion of milk, a known allergen, on the product label.
The Kraft recall includes:
16 oz. packages -- individual consumer packages -- of "Classic Wieners Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added" with "USE BY 16 Jun 2014" date and product code 044700000632; and
Cases of 16 oz. packages -- distributed to retailers -- of "Classic Cheese Dogs Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added, and Pasteurized Cheese Product" with "USE BY 16 Jun 2014" date and case code 00447000005300.
The products were produced March 2-3, 2014, and bear the establishment number "Est. 537H" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were sent to Kraft distribution centers and retail stores nationwide.
The FSIS news release explains the mislabeling problem was discovered by a consumer who notified the company April 18, 2014, soon after which the company contacted the U.S.D.A. about the issue.
So far, the FSIS says neither the U.S.D.A. nor the company has received any reports of adverse reactions caused by consumption of the mislabeled products.
