The Cleveland Browns have named former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson as the new head coach on Wednesday, per the team's official website. The first task for Jackson is to select his starting quarterback, and according to reports, he is a fan of San Francisco 49ers struggling quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Jackson was also considered for the 49ers coaching job but chose the Browns because he was also offered some power over personnel. However, he will not have control on who's in or out of the 53-man roster, per the Sacramento Bee.

"I'm not worried about who picks this player or that player. All I want to do is win," Jackson said. The Browns have a messy situation in the QB position with Johnny Manziel and his off-the-court problems. The team also has Josh McCown and Austin Davis, but they are not viewed as a long-term solution for Cleveland.

According to a report by Cleveland.com, Manziel is all but done with the Browns but Jackson will assess first his skills and attitude. "I don't know Johnny personally. I know who he is, but at the same time I think I have to give everybody on our football team a fair opportunity to see who they are, to truly learn who they are, and then make decisions from there," the new Browns coach said.

The 50-year-old has a lot of choices in the QB market with Sam Bradford, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Brock Osweiler as free agents. Robert Griffin III will also be available once the Washington Redskins release him. He could also draft a quarterback as the Browns have the second overall pick in this year's draft.

The most intriguing option for Jackson is Colin Kaepernick, who struggled under Jim Tomsula before missing the final seven games of the season due to a shoulder injury. He also underwent thumb and knee surgery last week, which makes him questionable to pass a medical before his $11.9 million 2016 salary becomes guaranteed on April 1, per ESPN.

Jackson has praised Kaepernick in the past, claiming that he tried to draft the 28-year-old back in 2011 while he was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders with the player also saying recently that he would like to play for Jackson.

Fansided suggested some possible trades for the Browns to acquire Kaepernick which includes the 2016 second overall pick. However, it is also noted that the quarterback's fate with San Francisco is still in question with a real possibility that the team's next head coach decides to retain him.
