Sugar Lake Farms Chicken Tenders Recalled Over Labeling
About 24,000 pounds of chicken tenders sold under the "Sugar Lake Farms" brand by Prime Pak Foods of Gainesville, Ga., have been recalled because of misbranding and the use in the product formula of known allergens not declared on the product label.
The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced April 21 that allergens egg and wheat were included in the ingredients used in the fully-cooked breaded chicken breast products, which were produced from Dec. 12, 2012 to March 21, 2014 and bear the establishment number "P-9165" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The products were distributed to hotels, restaurants and institutions nationwide.
The problem with the products, which are distributed to hotels, restaurants and institutions nationwide, was discovered by a government food safety inspector who notified the company April 17, 2014.
After an investigation by the company, it was confirmed the manufacturer did not list all ingredients on their product packaging labels.
The recalled products include:
- 2- and 5-lb. bags in a 10-lb. box of "Sugar Lake Farms Fully Cooked Breaded Chicken Breast Tenders" with the product code 77422 printed on the box; and
- 2- and 5-lb. bags in a 10-lb. box of "Sugar Lake Farms Fully Cooked Spicy Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks" with the product code 77448 printed on the box.
Neither the FSIS nor Prime Pak Foods has received any reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS says it routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to make sure the recalled products are no longer available to consumers.
When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website, at https://www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
Consumers additional questions about the recall may contact John Appling at (770) 536-8708, ext. 1105 or via e-mail at: jappling@primepakfoods.com.
