Bill Maher Petition Gets 200,000 Signatures for Obama Guest Appearance [Watch]
President Barack Obama can't ignore Bill Maher's plea to be a guest on his talk show any longer.
In effort to get the president to appear on HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher," the controversial talk show host created a White House petition asking Obama to come on his show before his tenure in the White House comes to an end. Maher then asked his fans to sign the petition as an early birthday present in a comedic monologue.
"Let's just say our invitation has gotten lost in the mail for seven years. Which would be OK, except for the fact that, in that time, this president has done virtually every other show in the known universe," Maher said at the end of his TV show on Friday. "I don't just mean other comedians' shows and other opinion-givers' shows, I mean, Mr. President, you've done everything but ultimate fighting and amateur porn."
"Sean Penn can get an interview with El Chapo, but I can't get on the president who talked to the lady with the green lips?" he said, referring to the president's interview with YouTube personality GloZell Green. "So I just want to know, why not us?"
Maher also speculated that Obama has snubbed his request because he is a self-proclaimed pothead and atheist.
"So now, for my big 6-0, I would like to ask my friend, the audience, this one favor," said Maher, who will turn 60 years old on Wednesday. "As it turns out, it is the policy of the Obama administration that if the White House receives a petition signed by 100,000 people in 30 days - you see where I'm going with this - they have to address it."
Now, four days later, the petition has gained over 200,000 signatures, more than double the 100,000 required to get a White House response.
The Obama administration has yet to issue a response.
