Quentin Tarantino has made a few headlines recently when he attended an anti-police rally.

Those headlines included police unions and organizations condemning and threatening him for his public stance on the subject. But now, Bill Maher has come out in support of Tarantino in a new interview between the HBO "Real Time" host and "The Hateful Eight" director.

According to Vanity Fair, Tarantino joined Maher on "Real Time" and opened up about what he actually said, which is in stark contrast to what certain media outlets and the police are reporting.

Maher immediately opened up to Tarantino about his own controversy that stemmed from comments that he had made after 9/11. He pointed out that what he said had been replayed in the media and taken completely out of context, which led to his own headlines of condemnation.

Tarantino is currently experiencing a similar issue with the same backlash that Maher once faced. In this case, it is about police violence, which he characterized as unnecessary in several videos that have been uploaded to social media sites over the past year.

"They're not dealing in a fair issue," Tarantino said in the interview. "They're saying that I'm a cop-hater, which is slander, I didn't say that, and they're saying -- they're implying that I meant that all cops are murderers. And I wasn't."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the police union has been promising a big surprise to Tarantino that in effect will hit him financially.

Executive Director of the Fraternal Order of Police Jim Pasco told THR that they do plan to retaliate against Tarantino.

"Something is in the works, but the element of surprise is the most important element," Pasco said. "Something could happen anytime between now and [the premiere]. And a lot of it is going to be driven by Tarantino, who is nothing if not predictable. The right time and place will come up and we'll try to hurt him in the only way that seems to matter to him, and that's economically."

But Maher was having none of that and he expressly agreed with Tarantino on many of the points that he made during both the interview and at the anti-police rally.
