Can 'Mas Mejor' Capture Latino Millennials' Imagination?
NBCUniversal and Broadway Video recently launched the Mas Mejor network, which is aimed at bringing Latino millennials entertaining content that centers on comedy.
The network will feature a plethora of programming, including short videos and series, in both English and Spanish thus allowing Latino millennials not only the opportunity to explore content that is unique to their demographic, but also content that they can share with friends who are not native Spanish-speakers.
"Hispanic comedy is an underserved area, especially in digital," said Peter Blacker EVP of Digital Media & Emerging Business, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises according to Variety. "There's not a lot of content focused on this market."
The initial offerings feature SNL style skits that will be proliferated across social media platforms, including YouTube or Telemundo's digital channels. The material is also currently hosted on masmejor.com.
Among the first videos showcased on the new network is a sketch showcasing Fred Armisen and Horatio Sanz. In the video, the two play serious toy collectors unboxing toys from such shows as "Sons of Anarchy," "Breaking Bad" and "Big Bang Theory." The two poke fun at the labels and Albert Einstein. Armisen is a widely known former cast member of Saturday Night Live, between 2002 and 2013. He is also the co-star and co-creator of the sketch comedy "Portlandia."
Another video takes on Donald Trump, poking fun at all of his hateful statements toward Latinos and Muslims among other things.
Other series will include "Si, Pipi, Si," "Soccer Dads" and "Tiny Ladies, Big Opinions."
