FDA Recalls Skinny Latina Million Dollar Marinade Over Undeclared Ingredient
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently recalled Skinny Latina Million Dollar Marinade bottles from stores for containing undeclared soy. According to a press release, people who are allergic to soy should not consume the product.
The product is available in clear 12-ounce glass bottles with a label on the back stating when it is best consumed. All bottles with the label, “Best By 12-15-15” or earlier, are being recalled. The bottles did not include the corrected labels stating that these contain soy.
Various retail stores around the US carry the recalled marinade including Whole Foods, Target and Fresh Market stores. On the Walmart website, a pack of six of Skinny Latina Million Dollar Marinade is listed at $42.17.
Skinny Latina, the brainchild of celebrity chef Ana Quincoces, claims that its products are flavorful and ideal for people aiming to maintain or lose weight. The marinade has also been described in marketing materials as all-natural, gluten-free and “slightly tangy, slightly sweet and overwhelmingly delicious.”
The recall was triggered by the discovery of soy in its gluten-free teriyaki sauce ingredient, without the packaging indicating its presence. It is important to note that Skinny Latina Foods Inc. voluntarily recalled the distributed products immediately after, the same press release states.
People who are severely sensitive or allergic to soy are prone to having an allergic reaction that could lead to life-threatening consequences if they eat the marinade. According to the Mayo Clinic, some of the symptoms of a soy allergy attack are hives, itching around the mouth, and in severe cases, inability to breathe or anaphylactic shock. As of this writing, there have been no reported illnesses related to the recent recall, the FDA release adds.
Food Poisoning Bulletin said that the UPC number of the recalled item is 8-55329-00400. The recalled products have lot numbers 10/29/15A, 10/29/15B, 10/27/15A, 10/27/15B, 10/28/15A, 10/28/15B, 10/21/15A, 10/21/15B, 10/22/15A, 10/2215B, 10/23/15A, 10/23/15B, 12/02/15A, 12/02/15B, 12/02/15A, and 12/02/15B,
Those who are allergic to soy or soybean products should not consume the product and must discard it. Consumers may also get in touch directly with Skinny Latina Foods, Inc. for questions and concerns at (305) 609-3310.
Products that carry the date Dec. 15, 2015 or later are deemed safe for consumption and use. More updates and details on Skinny Latina Million Dollar Marinade’s recalled are expected as the issue continues to unfold.
