NBA Jersey Sales: Stephen Curry Beats LeBron James
Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors absolutely dominated LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in their last regular season game, 132-98. But Curry is also beating out James in another category this year: jersey sales.
According to Cleveland.com, Curry has the highest selling jersey in the NBA this year. Curry, who wears No. 30, had the most popular selling jersey for the second consecutive selling period. James' No. 23 jersey ranked second in the NBA behind only Curry.
Both players share a few of the same characteristics. Obviously both players are superstars, NBA champions, American-born and considered the best player on their team. Oh, and by the way, both James and Curry were born in the same exact hospital: Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio.
On the court, Curry led the Warriors to an NBA Championship over James in the finals last year in six games. Curry took home the MVP award last regular season, and it looks like he could very well win it against this season. As for the regular season matchup, James leads the all-time series, 5-4. Curry's team has won the last five games against the Cavaliers. James still leads Curry in base salary and overall shoe sales. It also should be mentioned that the Warriors as a team sold the most merchandise in the NBA this previous quarter.
Next season will be the final year of Curry's current contract. Only time will tell how much he gets in salary.
According to ESPN, Kristaps Porzingis has the fourth highest selling jersey thus far this season. The New York Knicks rookie has surprised many fans this year despite the fact he was doubted by most when draft No. 4 overall by Phil Jackson. Kobe Bryant ranked third, meaning Porzingis (from Latvia) has the highes selling jersey of any player born outside the United States and the highest selling jersey of any rookie.
