5 Times Non-Latina Stars Pulled Off Selena Quintanilla's Looks
More than 20 years after her death, Selena Quintanilla's iconic influence continue to be felt to this day, even among non-Latina artists. Proof of that is the fact that some of her signature styles have been copied at some point by some of today's star's.
Here are five of them seen wearing a Selena-style outfit.
Beyonce
Remember that sparkly jumpsuit Queen Bey wore during her 2013 concert tour when she flew above the crowd? Yes, that one. Apparently, Selena pulled off that look first in a similar-looking jumpsuit she wore with a bolero coverup decades back, as per Latina.
Considering Beyonce has met Selena back when the "Drunk in Love" singer wasn't a celebrity yet -- she even admitted she was inspired by the Queen of Tejano Music -- it's not surprising this jumpsuit look a la Selena appeared in her wardrobe.
Solange Knowles
This is also not a surprising development as Bey's little sister, being from Texas like her famous sibling, must have heard of and felt Selena's influence, albeit posthumously. Solange had been spotted wearing colorful blazers, just like what the "I Could Fall In Love" hitmaker did when she was still alive, at certain events.
Katy Perry
The "Roar" singer is known for her colorful, quirky ensembles. Among those is a bra encrusted with sparkly things -- the kind that Selena wore in her heyday. Considering the lingerie-as-outerwear trend is all the rage lately, the Latina singer apparently was an artist ahead of her time style-wise. Katy, who admitted being enthralled by Selena at a Grammy's event as a little girl, just put a new spin on it.
Rihanna
Despite dripping with a distinct, personal style, RiRi is apparently not against borrowing looks from other artists, like that sheer crop top she wore to one of her performances, as shown here. But if she thought she was the first to wear it, Selena already did more than two decades ago.
Lana Del Rey
If she thought wearing a sports jacket is being fashion forward, the fact that Selena already capped that look long ago makes Lana's take on the outfit a rather dated one.
Selena's style indeed spans the decades in that it still continues to manifest in today's fashion. As such, there's a reason she has been called the "Mexican Madonna" - she makes her own rules style and career-wise and makes them the kind that others want to follow, even years after her passing.
