One of the things that you probably should not do in your life is to borrow a powerful sports car without even asking permission from the owner -- as one person learned the hard way.

A valet in Miami Beach had recently set a red Lamborghini Aventador on fire after he took it out for a drive, without the owner knowing about it, of course. Apart from getting the vehicle without the owner's consent, the valet caused the $400,000 sports car's rear to burst into flames.

As per Fox News Latino, the vehicle's powerful engine -- clocking at about 720 horsepower -- had overheated as the inner-city route of the joyride didn't have the airflow needed to manage the engine's temperature. Also, the valet apparently over-revved the car which led to the mishap.

Bystanders stepped in to help put out the flames, but the effort was not enough to prevent the car's rear from looking burnt. It was later pushed from the area.

The incident was caught on video as some onlookers had captured it on their smartphones.

No information has been provided regarding the owner's reaction to the accident or whether he was made to pay for the damage he incurred.

There have been previous incidents of Lamborghinis bursting in flames. A yellow one in Dubai was burnt so badly that repairing it appeared to be out of the question.

Another one involved an orange Lamborghini Gallardo in South Delhi which burned after its oil tank reportedly leaked and caught fire. Its driver managed to escape unharmed. The car was just 4 months old; it was insured.

On the other hand, there has been footage taken of a Lambo surviving the floodwaters in San Diego, California earlier this month. The white supercar was able to pass through a rather deep part of the flooded street without even choking or stopping.

An explanation of the successful watery passage was that the Lambo's V10 engine is in the middle of the vehicle and that its air intakes sit pretty high up within the car. The sports car also had some shielding underneath it, which also apparently helped it keep the engine running despite the high water level. However, the shielding was meant to improve the car's aerodynamics, not its ability to pass through water.

In other Lambo-related news, an owner of a green Lamborghini Huracán had repaired a broken side mirror with just duct tape

"I'd have thought if you spend so much on something, you'd want to keep it in good nick and looking smart," an onlooker commented to Mirror.
