WWE: Was Triple H's Royal Rumble Victory for the Greater Good of World Wrestling Entertainment?
Triple H unsurprisingly ended up as the 2015 WWE Royal Rumble winner and the new WWE Heavyweight champion.
For people following the grapevine, the outcome wasn’t really surprising. Triple H was a heavy favorite to win the 30-man battle royal and was seen as WWE chairman’s Vince McMahon’s final card when he came in as the last wrestler.
With all that over and done with, was the scheme to make the WWE COO a good move? There are many who beg to differ (via Bleacher Report) though it was noticeable during the event that many were not too fond of seeing Reigns rule the rumble for the second year in a row.
The boos were heard each time Reigns would get the upper hand, calling to mind memories of a disastrous battle royal in 2015.
While many felt that the WWE could have done better, there is more to crowing the eventual winner with this one. It is all about staying the course with existing storylines, with the WWE making do with a limited roster in the back.
More so, it is seen as a move to somehow help Reigns yet again. Apparently, the WWE Universe is at it again and have somehow started going against the Big Dog due to the predictable storylines.
With the recent 2016 Royal Rumble results, it seems practically imminent that we will see a Reigns vs. Triple H showdown. However, before looking that far ahead, there is WWE Fastlane happening on Feb. 21.
There will not be any title defense happening at the next WWE PPV, but a No. 1 contender match to determine who faces Triple H at Wrestlemania 32 in April.
The match will see Reigns facing his buddy Dean Ambrose and rival Brock Lesnar, with the winner going to the big dance.
This means that the WWE heavyweight title will remain idle until Wrestlemania 32, hinting that anything from here on will be more about storylines rather than focusing on the major WWE titles.
It will be interesting how things pan out along the way. Aside from Reigns, there are stories developing with Ambrose and Lesnar.
Ambrose was previously in a feud storyline with Kevin Owens, so it will be interesting if this continues. KO wants that Intercontinental title back, and he knows that a victory over the Lunatic Fringe is the only way he can do so.
With Ambrose figuring in the WWE heavyweight title scene, could he be losing the IC belt soon? We have seen it happen before, with previous title-holders making the jump.
As far as Lesnar is concerned, Reigns and Ambrose may be the least of his problems.
Remember that seeds of his feud with the Wyatt family were already planted. He was also rumoured to be facing Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania 32 as well.
With all these sidelights, keep a close eye on Reigns and the storylines. It will be interesting what the WWE creative team has in mind.
