WWE: Nikki Bella to Undergo Neck Surgery, Is Her Career Over?
Nikki Bella has been out of action since December due to a neck injury. In an exclusive interview with E! Online, the former WWE Divas champion revealed that she is set to undergo neck surgery on Jan. 27 that could potentially end her wrestling career.
"I have basically a broken neck, a pretty bad herniated disk. What makes mine a little bit difficult than most people is that I have some disk behind my vertebrae so with a lot of prayers we're gonna pray that the doctors can get the piece behind my vertebrae with just a bone fusion," Bella said.
The 32-year-old added that she has been experiencing neck pain since July 2015, but only decided to get an MRI when in October when it became more irritating. Bella immediately dropped the Divas title to Charlotte at the Survivor Series pay-per-view that ended his 301-day reign, the longest in WWE history.
Nikki also gave details of his recovery that could be longer than six months, saying that she will just be in the hospital for a day or two. She noted that she will have to wear a neck brace for three months and is not allowed to travel.
The longest-reigning Divas champion in history is also hoping that in six months, her final X-ray will permit her to get back to the ring. Her injury is revealed to be on the C6 and C7 vertebras. However, Bella acknowledged that her injury could end her career.
"There is a potential that this is career-ending. We will only know that when I get out of surgery on Wednesday," Bella said.
Her doctors believe that her "Rack Attack" finisher contributed to the herniated discs as the move involves the weight of her opponents at the back of her neck. Nikki said that the move is officially retired and she will be using her forearm smash as the new finishing maneuver.
In an interview with WWE.com, it was mentioned that her boyfriend John Cena, who also suffered herniated discs back in 2008, gave her some encouraging words and strong support. Cena is also out for six to eight months due to shoulder surgery.
"I know he's the reason I'll be back stronger than ever. I honestly don't know what I would do without him, and I hate that he's injured, but now I'll get to have him every day to help me get back," Bella commented.
Lastly, her surgery and rehabilitation will be featured on Total Divas. Nikki is very thankful for the support she has been getting from her fans.
