Amanda Bynes Mental Health and Rehab Update: Actress Gets Her Driver's License Back After DUI Suspension
Not only is Amanda Bynes on the road to recovery, but the 28-year-old actress is officially back on the road as well now that she has gotten her driver's license back.
On Sunday, the "Hairspray" star was reportedly spotted driving with her father in Los Angeles. According to People magazine, DMV records show she's legally allowed to get behind the wheel once again. In 2012, the embattled star had her license suspended after two hit-and-run charges and a DUI arrest.
In addition to piecing her life back together, Bynes has shown great progress in her mental health. Earlier this month, the Hollywood star looked happy and healthy as she celebrated her 28th birthday in Mexico on April 3. She shared photos of herself clad in a neon bikini on Twitter while on vacation with her parents during Spring Break. "Spring break," she wrote as the caption on the first picture. On the other photo, she wrote "Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes."
The former child star also recently completely a successful semester at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
"She's a great student who always participated and really cared about her classes," an inside source told E! News. "She really fit in and loves her school. If she was offered an acting job anytime soon she may not take it because she's so focused on school," the source added. "Amanda's really talented at what she does so the picture is the real deal. She's only just beginning."
This is a complete 180 from the months of bizarre and erratic behavior that Bynes displayed in 2013 until she was finally committed to a psychiatric hospital last summer. On July 22, 2013, Bynes was placed in an involuntary hold after she set fire to a stranger's driveway, around the corner from her parents' home in California. She was rumored to have been diagnosed with schizophrenia and her parents were granted full conservatorship over her fortune.
Bynes received treatment for mental illness at UCLA's medical center before she was transferred to a mental rehabilitation facility in Malibu called The Canyon.
In December, the former Nickelodeon star was released into the care of her parents in Thousand Oaks, Calif. and appears to also be focused on her physical health and going to the gym.
