There are rumors that Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift will finally work on a song. The two have appeared in music videos together, but have not yet released an official song.

“Oh, I don’t know. I mean, eventually, right? She’s my best friend. We’ll see,” Gomez told E! News at the Sundance Film Festival after she was asked about the potential collaboration.

In an article by Australian Network News, Gomez has been very open about how close she is with the Grammy winner. Gomez reportedly became Swift’s best friend in 2008.

MTV wrote that the two best friends previously dated the Jonas Brothers. Taylor used to date Joe, while Selena dated Nick. They started their friendship while they were with the Jonas boys, stating that they immediately clicked and got close. Gomez refers to Swift as her sister and the two have been spotted several times on the red carpet, having dinner and hanging out. Previously, Selena joined Taylor onstage during her “1989” World Tour, where the former performed “Good For You” for the first time.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Gomez said that she never had an argument with Taylor. There were previous rumors that her friendship with Tay-Tay was falling apart due to her on-and-off relationship with Justin Bieber. She said that they would talk on the phone, laughing about the false rumors. However, it does not mean that she is against Bieber. She treats Gomez like her little sister and is very protective of her.

"Both of us have kind of stuck it out and hung in there through all the different changes we've gone through,” Gomez told E!News about the longevity of their friendship.

E!Online revealed that the two have been together for so long that Selena agreed to play the part of the main villain in Swift’s controversial video for her hit “Bad Blood.” The song has spurred a number of rumors and eventually garnered a VMA in 2015. Some fans speculate that the song was dedicated by Swift to her former friendship with Katy Perry. Swift, however, said that she wrote the song about an ex-boyfriend.

Although Gomez’s answer should be taken with a grain of salt, the two are in their prime years, so the idea of a song collaboration is not a distant idea. Fans continue to look forward to a release in the near future.
