American Airlines and United Airlines released their separate announcement of free in-flight food. According to Paste Magazine, United Airlines made a commitment to provide free stroopwafels biscuits on their flights to the Caribbean and North America. However, the complimentary in-flight food only applies to the economy cabin and cannot be upgraded.

American Airlines, on the other hand, did not only commit to giving in-flight free food, but also additional entertainment in their economy cabin. Pretzels and Biscoff cookies will be provided to its passengers options.

In a statement made by American Airlines Vice President - Global Marketing Fernan Fernandez, he said, "We want customers to choose American every time they fly. We are giving our customer more choices to enhance their personal flying experience by offering new service and new entertainment options in all cabins."

The main cabin food augmentation for American Airlines include flights between New York's JFK and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), JFK and San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and Miami International Airport (MIA) and LAX.

Additional improvement also includes designer amenity kits such as pure cotton luxury sleepwear, skincare brands, all-American toiletries and a custom bag designed by Cole Haan for in-flight kits. The complimentary in-flight entertainment is composed of domestic flights with in-seat entertainment accompanied by 40 movies, 300 music albums and 60 TV shows. American also takes pride in being the first U.S. airline to feature free international live TV.

In late 2015, United Airlines made the announcement of their free in-flight food. United Airline's vice president of food services and United Clubs Jimmy Samartzis said, "We're refocusing on the big and little things that we know matter to our customers and shape how they feel about their travel experience. We're bringing back complimentary snacks that are a nod to our global presence. They also add that extra level of service our employees will be proud to deliver and will make a big difference for our customers."

Meanwhile, Business Wire reports that JetBlue has also announced some improvements in their in-flight restructuring. Despite the absence of food enhancement, the carrier said it has made significant changes on its in-flight entertainment featuring more legroom in coach, movable headrests and LED cabin lighting.

JetBlue's latest in-flight television streaming also runs on the Google Android Platform. This latest innovation is said to be delivered via a 10-inch, high-definition touchscreen assigned in every seat.
