On Thursday, CBS will air an epic Star Wars-themed episode of the "Big Bang Theory," featuring Professor Proton who will appear as Sheldon's own Jedi master.

The synopsis for the penultimate episode, entitled "The Proton Transmogrification," states that "Professor Proton is going to help Sheldon cope with his grief, while Leonard turns a relationship milestone into a competition with Penny. Meanwhile, Amy and Bernadette will create a 'Star Wars Day' gift for the guys," reports the Hollywood Hills. Plus, Emmy Award-winning actor Bob Newhart will reprise his role as Professor Proton.

In the upcoming episode, airing three days before the annual May 4 Star Wars Day, the geeky gang will celebrate the annual holiday, while Sheldon will be guided by visions from Professor Proton, his childhood idol and mentor who appears as his Jedi master.

According to E! News, each year fans across the world celebrate the Star Wars film franchise on May 4 with screenings and special events. The traditional celebratory greeting is "May the fourth be with you," which is a play on the famous "Star Wars" line, "May the Force be with you."

To produce the episode, the CBS sitcom teamed up with a group of special effects technicians from Lucasfilm's Industrial Light & Magic. Lucasfilm experts provided consultation on the episode oversaw production and provided props, including a light saber. The Lucasfilm team also re-created Dagobah, the remote world of swamps and forests where Yoda resided during his exile.

"We were approached by the Lucasfilm people to do something to celebrate Star Wars Day, which was nice," said show co-creator Chuck Lorre to The Hollywood Reporter.

"We knew that Bob was coming back and Lucasfilm called us, and we realized that that this might be an opportunity to mix both stories and come up with something special," said showrunner Steve Molaro.

Molaro added that the idea to re-create Dagobah sprung from "The Big Bang Theory" writers and producers, but the Lucasfilm team were happy to assist.

"They're excited about everything we're doing, and they're going to help us with the special effects. Bob is going to be swinging a light saber around and they sent us a real one to use. They're going to help make it look and sound right. It's an amazing crossover for us," said Molaro.

Lucasfilm VFX guru Eddie Pasquarello said his team was happy to provide on-set consultation for the episode. "We at ILM were very excited to do the effects for it. Everyone loves the show there and to have the tie-in to May the Fourth felt like a good synergy and marriage. We jumped at it," he told THR. "We did talk about what the set would look like and they sent us pictures of the light saber hilt and the Dagobah set and we were impressed. We talked about the interactive lighting for the light saber and some of the ideas that were there. They did an amazing job of getting it together."

Meanwhile, Newhart admitted he had to "do some research" into Star Wars in preparation for his guest appearance on the show. "I talked to Chuck, Steve and [co-creator/EP] Bill [Prady] about it and they gave me the 'Phantom Menace' so I knew what [Dagobah] would look like. They explained to me what the light saber was and what it could do -- and not to point it at Jim because it would kill him!"

Molaro also dropped hints about what fans can expect to see in the final episodes of the season, hinting that Leonard and Penny will explore the marriage question again, while Howard and Bernadette will be tasked with caring for Mrs. Wolowitz.

Molaro also warns that season seven will end with a cliffhanger.

"It does end on something of a cliffhanger. The last three episodes, a lot of big moves happen. The final three episodes aren't necessarily building to a crescendo in the finale but there are big moves happening all over the place, including the finale. I'm pretty excited about it," he said.

Molaro went on to assure viewers that Laura Spencer's character Emily will be sticking around in the future. "Laura is great; we're all really happy with her. She will be continuing on in some form, yes. I don't have much of a clue about season eight yet, but she will be around."

Furthermore, the producer warned that Howard and Bernadette won't be having any children any time soon.

"I don't think any of us are interested in having any babies on the show anytime soon. They're working through the things that marriage brings. Mrs. Wolowitz continues to be a big factor in their lives. Coming up, she's going to need a little more health care than she has been needing and as a good son and daughter-in-law, that is going to fall on their shoulders to some extent."

"The Big Bang Theory" S7E22, "The Proton Transmogrification," will air on Thursday, May 1 at 8:00 p.m. EDT on CBS.
