Why Did the 2016 Chevrolet COPO Camaro Get 5,500 Enthusiastic Buyers?
Pony car enthusiasts are drooling over the 2016 Chevrolet COPO Camaro that despite only making 69 units, over 5,500 have expressed their interests on possessing the car.
This latest creation from Chevrolet is making car lovers go flat-out bonkers with its unique specifications. According to Auto Blog, the COPO Camaro can be configured either with the National Hot Rod Association's Stock or Super Stock Classes.
In addition, it will come with a racing-specified chassis paired with a solid rear axle. As for its engine, the 2016 Chevrolet COPO Camaro has choices of 5.7, 6.2 and 7.0-liter V8 engines. No matter what engine the owner may choose, the car will surely deliver a powerful performance.
According to GM Vice President Jim Campbell, he said that it's still not clear whether the COPO version of the Camaro would bring profits for the company, but said that it definitely adds a positive image to Chevrolet and the Camaro badge.
He added, "It makes sense for our business from a number of perspectives."
When asked why they keep on creating limited stocks of the pony car, Campbell said that low production keeps interests high as it further adds to the hype.
For people not fortunate enough to snag one of the 69 pieces of the COPO Camaro, Campbell suggested that users can create their own by buying a rolling chassis and a crate motor, but noted that it will not be viewed by car collectors in the same vein as GM factory-built COPOs.
In a related report by Car Scoops, the pricing for the car is not yet made public, but noted that with a lot of engine choices, expect the car to have varying prices. .
Furthermore, the Camaro is actually the second COPO version Chevrolet has churned out, as it was first utilized on the Corvette C7R and the Cadillac ATSV.R.
Apart from the COPO Camaro, Chevrolet will also parade their new Camaro SS at an upcoming auto expo in India, which despite being not as race-ready as the COPO version, still features the company's signature big block V8 that can churn out 455 horsepower.

The 2016 version of the Camaro is reported to be 100 kilos lighter compared to the previous version, making it the lightest version of the car in history.
