‘Star Citizen’ Update -- Creator Spills Details About Multi-Crew Experience, In-Game Universe and More
"Star Citizen" has made waves as a highly successful crowd-funded video game from Cloud Imperium Games. The team has always been generous with sharing details about the upcoming game to their legions of loyal fans and in the latest "10 for the Chairman" video, creator Chris Roberts takes the stand and answers some of the biggest fan questions about the new "Star Citizen."
According to the transcript on Imperial News Network, the questions ranged from very specific game-centric inquiries to future plans. Throughout the interview, Roberts revealed interesting tidbits such as the inspiration the group found from other online games such as "World of Warcraft", "EvE" and "DayZ."
The executive also talked about the team being in the process of figuring out how to balance the acclaimed repair and items system with the ships in combat taking the damage. While the fan pointed out the players usually only have one to two minutes to last after getting damaged, Roberts explained that the repair system is meant to get the ships to last longer. The multi-crew experience, with players and friends working together in a ship, will also likely get the players much further and longer.
The multi-crew experience is a significant highlight of the upcoming "Star Citizen" as the gamers will get the chance to play with other fans of the game and work together for a common goal.
"One of the hallmarks is meant to be the multi-crew experience where you are on a ship; you and your friends flying it; people are running into the turrets; jumping into a snub nose fighter; running around putting out fires; replacing blown fuses, all working together as a team to operate efficiently in combat," Roberts said. "And I think that again, will be one of the things that will set Star Citizen apart because that will be done and simulated in a fidelity you don't normally see, and it should be really rewarding to work together as a team to beat off these attackers or take another ship out."
The release date for the final version of "Star Citizen" has not yet been announced. However, the crowd-funded game has had great strides in the past few months. Last December, the Cloud Imperium Games title marked over $100 million in funding, according to a report from Game Spot.
The Kickstarter campaign for "Star Citizen" began back in October 2012 and now boasts an all-star cast for the "Squadron 42" campaign mode including Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, and Mark Strong.
