Samsung is joining the hype surrounding the clash of the comic book titans. The electronics giant is reportedly developing a DC-themed variant of the hotly-anticipated Galaxy S7 edge inspired by the upcoming flick "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," according to a report from Phone Arena.

With or without the tie-in with the DC project, the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 is gearing up to be a major one. Even ahead of its official debut, there have been a lot of details leaked on the devices.

According to a report from Phone Probe, well-known leakster Evan Blass has already revealed the specs of the new Samsung handsets, including a QHD AMOLED display and a microSD card slot, while the improved 12MP rear snapper is one of Samsung's main focuses on these Galaxy iterations. The smartphones are also reportedly water-resistant, which was recently confirmed by the images posted on a Samsung webpage.

The webpage featured a few promo images with phrases that highlighted the premium features of the smartphones including text that said "worry-less discovery" accompanying a photo of the device underwater.

Other notable features revealed on the page were better privacy and security, as well as an upgraded camera that is said to "bring light to the night." The report from Phone Probe also noted that the new 12MP camera will feature a smaller sensor but a bigger pixel, making it a great choice in low-light situations.

The video sneak peek on the Samsung webpage was posted on the YouTube account of Samsung Indonesia, making it a credible leak. It also supported the speculation regarding the water-resistant feature of the new device, as it showcased the Galaxy smartphone being used in the rain with utmost ease.

Even with all the impressive specs and upgrades, the superhero treatment is likely to give the hotly-anticipated smartphone a considerable boost upon its release. After all, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is one of the most anticipated films of 2016 as it puts two of DC Comics' greatest superheroes together.

It's not the first time Samsung has paid tribute to the comic book heroes, although it wasn't always DC they've paired with. Last year, Samsung announced on its official website that the company teamed up with Marvel to create the Galaxy S6 edge Iron Man Limited Edition for fans of innovative technology and the brilliant superhero. The special edition device was available in Korea, China and Hong Kong.
