Lin-Manuel Miranda, the rising Broadway star, received critical praises following the launch of his musical, "Hamilton," in 2015. The play has been attracting theater buffs and new musical fans alike because of its unique treatment about the American Revolution.

Miranda also mixed classical and contemporary music to tell the story. Because of this, performance nights are booked and sold out for the rest of the season.

Recently, the Latin American composer, rapper and actor bagged the Best Musical Theater Album trophy for "Hamilton" at the Grammy Awards, and he's been making headlines since.

1) Manhattan-born Miranda is of Puerto Rican descent. He worked as a high school English teacher before charting his showbiz career.

2) Politics is a common topic in the Miranda household while he was growing up, as his father used to work as a political advisor. Among his father's clients included former New York City Mayor Ed Koch.

3) Miranda wrote former New York governor Eliot Spitzer's campaign jingle in 2004. He's also into comedy. In fact, he founded Freestyle Love Supreme, a comedy touring group that performed at various festivals. This is where he first started writing stories and music, mixing hip-hop with improv.

4) His geek credentials include writing a music for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Director J.J. Abrams went to watch him perform at "Hamilton" and met with him during intermission. He offered his services to him as a joke.

"I said, 'Well, if you need a cantina scene, some cantina music, let me know.' And he took me up on it," Miranda shared. "We wrote the song together. We had one sort of music file that we shared back-and-forth."

5) It took Miranda years to finish writing "Hamilton." He bought Ron Chernow's bestseller "Alexander Hamilton" in 2008 and then sang or rapped the song's for Chernow at his house. The author worked with the actor and composer to ensure that the play and the rap songs would be accurate.

6) Miranda received the MacArthur "Genius Grant" award in 2015. The fellows of the MacArthur Foundation are usually notified with phone calls first. However, he thought that the call was about his cable subscription with Time Warner.

7) Before "Hamilton," Miranda wrote "Into The Heights," which is based on the book written by Quiara Alegría Hudes. It went into production on Broadway in 2008 and was also a success. The show won multiple Tony awards and was also nominated for a Pulitzer for Drama.
