English clubs did not get the results they wanted in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 last Feb. 18. Manchester United lost in Denmark against Midtjylland while Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur only managed a draw in their respective matches.

Man United Lose 2-1 in Arena Herning

Louis van Gaal and the rest of Manchester United were favorites to beat the Danish side but lost an important away leg when Paul Onuachu gave Midtjylland the lead in the 77th minute. Memphis Depay scored the first goal after the first 37 minutes to give the visitors the early lead.

However, Pione Sisto equalized a minute before the first half ended, scoring the goal past United goalkeeper Sergio Romero. The Argentina international made a fine save in the 60th but was unable to save the game winner from Onuachu.

"The fans can criticise. We have to improve and then the fans shall support us again. They are disappointed like we are. I'm very grateful for the fans who supported us but we wanted to win and we have to win at Old Trafford and then we are in the next round. We have to do it, but it's not easy," van Gaal commented after United fans chanted profanities towards the team.

Liverpool, Spurs Earn Draw

Jurgen Klopp's return to Germany was not very satisfying when Augsburg held Liverpool to a scoreless draw. The game was a stalemate with South Korean striker Ji Dong-Won having the only close chance in the 86th minute when he hit the outside of the post for the home side.

As for Tottenham, a Nacer Chadli penalty in the first half wasn't enough as they allowed a Federico Bernardeschi equalizer for Fiorentina in the 59th minute from 30 yards. However, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham have all the home field advantage for the second leg next week.

Spanish Clubs Win

Villareal was able to defeat Napoli with a 1-0 win at home while Sevilla scored three past Swedish club Molde. Gary Neville managed Valencia to a 6-0 victory at the Mestalla over Austrian side Rapid Wien while Athletic Bilbao got a crucial 1-0 away win in.
