Is Ted Cruz the ‘Zodiac Killer’? Conspiracy Theorists Believe So
Oh no! Is Ted Cruz the "Zodiac Killer"? The 2016 U.S. presidential elections is indeed getting interesting. Now, a presidential candidate is believed to be a serial killer, who have murdered 37 people in the '70s.
The online realm was recently brought back to life when Google offered some interesting autocomplete suggestions. While most options appeared common such as the words "American," "Hispanic" and "Married," what caught the netizens' attention was the words "Zodiac Killer."
"Zodiac Killer"
A killer, who identified himself with a Zodiac sign in a series of enigmatic and immodest letters to the authorities, ignited fears in Northern California in the late '60s because of a number of murders. Unfortunately, his identity remained a mystery for decades while the crimes were far from being solved. In fact, some cases in several cities throughout the state remain open.
However, a number of conspiracy theorists, absurdist online trolls and frustrated Sherlock Holmes have recently propagated that top 2016 Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is the notorious "Zodiac Killer."
Even though Cruz was born shortly after the first murders were committed, the Internet as well as several media outlets have all jumped into the wagon in spite of the obvious preposterous nature of the claim.
Why People Think Ted Cruz is the "Zodiac Killer"?
Perhaps, one of the best reasons why Internet trolls and conspiracy theorists believe that Cruz is the "Zodiac Killer" is because he never explicitly denied the claims. The propagators of the online speculation also insisted that the evidence of Cruz's involvement to the infamous killer and his crimes were hidden in plain sight.
In addition to Cruz's reticence, other sleuths also pointed out that the connection between the 45-year-old presidential candidate's hypothetical involvement in the crimes executed several decades ago have already turned into a political issue.
Not the First Time
The latest Zodiac killer claims, however, were not a first for Cruz. As a matter of fact, Red Pill America already joked about Cruz's secret identity in March 2013. But it wasn't until last fall that the theory picked up steam, especially on social media.
There was even a Facebook page called "Ted Cruz is the Zodiac Killer" while the hashtag #zodiacted trended on Twitter on Jan. 20 in the U.S. In addition, former professional photographer and an Austin wrestling league general manager Tim Faust and artist have designed a T-shirt that says, "Ted Cruz was the Zodiac Killer."
The said shirts are sold to fund the West Fund, an organization that provides support for abortion, which Cruz opposes. To this day, Ted Cruz has yet to finally address the rumor.
