"Doctor Who" and "Terminator" fans rejoice, The Doctor No. 11, Matt Smith, is joining the cast of the "Terminator" reboot, "Terminator: Genesis."

On May 2, Skydance Productions made the casting announcement via its Twitter account.

"@Skydance We don't have a TARDIS, but we do have a Time Lord: we're pleased to welcome Matt Smith to the cast of #Terminator," wrote Skydance.

The Time Lord confirmation about Smith joining the cast of "Terminator" is perhaps a science-fiction aficionados' dream come true. Both Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions confirm that Smith's character will play a major role and will join other actors who are part of the "sy-fy" fandom.

According to Yahoo! Movies, in a joint statement released by Skydance Productions and Paramount Pictures, "Smith will play a new character with a strong connection to John Connor."

Arnold Schwarzenegger is also confirmed to be in the film, along with Jason Clarke, from "Zero Dark Thirty," playing the titular character of John Connor; Emilia Clarke, from "Game of Thrones," will be playing Sarah Connor; Jai Courtney from "Divergent" will be playing Kyle Reese; Dayo Okeniyi from "The Hunger Games" will play Danny Dyson, the son of the brainiac cyborg developer played by Joe Morton in "Terminator: Judgment Day."

Alan Taylor is directing the film, and Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier are writing the screenplay.

Smith is best known for playing The Doctor, and his other TV credits include "Christopher and His Kind" and "The Street." Smith will also be seen in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut film "Lost River" alongside Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes, Deadline.com reported.

This will be the fifth "Terminator" film since its 1984 debut. The entire "Terminator" franchise to date has earned more than $1 billion worldwide at the box office.

"Terminator: Genesis" is expected to be released on July 1, 2015.
