Adriana Lima and husband Marco Jaric have made a difficult life decision to part their ways after five years of marriage.

"After long and careful consideration, we have decided to separate after five years of marriage," the couple announced their split in a joint statement. "We are grateful to be the parents of two incredible young daughters that we will continue to co-parent."

"We would greatly appreciate your respect for our family's privacy as we begin this delicate next chapter for all members of our family," they added.

The Brazilian beauty, 32, met the Serbian professional basketball player, 35, at a party in Los Angeles back in 2006. The pair got engaged two years later on Lima's birthday and tied the knot in a private civil ceremony in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on 2009 Valentine's Day. They are raising their daughters Valentina, 4, and Sienna, 19 months, together in Miami.

"Our life, we live in a honeymoon," Lima had said six months after their wedding. "I never saw myself being married. But after I met him, everything changed. I knew he was the one, and I could see myself married with him and with a big family."

The Victoria's Secret veteran model also famously kept her virginity until she got married. "Sex is for after marriage," she previously said in an interview. "[Men] have to respect that this is my choice. If there's no respect, that means they don't want me."

A few months before the couple's separation, Adriana Lima took to her Instagram account to somewhat hint that things were not going as well between her and Jaric. "Quote of the day: He offered her the world. She said she had her own," she posted.
