Just like the thigh gap and the bikini bridge, there is a new fad on social media called the finger trap test that supposedly measures someone's beauty.

The fad has taken over Weibo, a very popular social media site in China. It's also known as "Beauty and Ugliness Identification Method," reports E! News.

According to the Daily Mail, this is how you take the test: Start by placing your index finger against your nose and your chin. If you're finger touches your lips, than this is an indication that you are beautiful. If your lips don't make contact with your finger, than you are ugly.

Weibo is filled with photos of mostly women who are posting pics of themselves taking the test, which is beginning to make waves in the U.S.

Boston.com reports that there is no scientific data to back this method as a test of beauty, nor is it related to the "Golden Ratio" of face dimensions. Instead, the finger-trap test is based on a Japanese meme which was replicated in a selfie by famous Chinese actress Xinyi Zhang. She reportedly made a big fuss about the fact that she "didn't pass the test," reports Refinery 29. As a result, her fans to responded by also taking photos as they took the finger-trap test. Eventually, the fad went viral.

More than 200,000 active Weibo discussions are based on the finger-trap test, according to Vocativ. However, Western media outlets are reporting that the trend can be dangerous and hurt one's self-esteem.

Vocativ writers say that, "the phenomenon also appears to be mostly in jest. According to this method, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Christina Hendricks would all be considered victims of the ugly stick."
