World famous singer-songwriter Paul Simon and his singer-songwriter wife were singing different tunes this week after their disorderly conduct arrest.

Simon, and Edie Brickell, his wife, were arrested last weekend in their New Canaan, Connecticut home for domestic abuse. The whole incident has left the New Canaan residents shocked.

Some of the New Canaan residents who regularly see the famous couple around the town were left in disbelief, while others were incredulous to the whole situation. But this did not stop the gossip about the squabbling singers, the New York Daily News reported.

The couple, Simon, 72, and Brickell, 47, have been married since 1992; they were charged with disorderly conduct. While in court, Simon stated that they were fine. And Brickell told the judge that "he's no threat to me at all." Brickell later admitted that she was the one who "picked a fight" with her husband, the New York Daily News reported.

On April 28 at a news conference, the police gave more details about the incident in that someone else, who shared the home with Simon and Brickell, had called 911, then hung up. This sparked a police investigation; officers responded and found minor injuries which led them to a case of domestic violence. The incident led to the couple's arrest and charge with "disorderly conduct related to domestic violence," the Huffington Post Canada reported.

The courts ruled that they both be given a misdemeanor summons, while one of them agreed to leave and go to another location.

"There was aggressiveness on both sides," Police Chief Leon Krolikowski said. "They're both victims and they have children involved and we're trying to be very cautious of that." The couple has teenage children.

Simon is known as the other half of the Simon & Garfunkel music duo, and writer of songs such as "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "The Sound of Silence" and "My Little Town." His wife, Brickell, had a hit in 1998 with her debut single "What I Am."
