Kris Humphries cleared waivers on Tuesday after being let go by the Phoenix Suns. He will now suit up for the Atlanta Hawks.

The Atlanta Hawks made the signing of the 31-yeard-old journeyman official after Basketball Operations president and head coach Mike Budenholzer announced Humphries' acquisition via NBA.com.

“Kris is a versatile veteran with playoff experience who fits well with our group and within our system," Budenholzer said. "We are fortunate to have Kris join our team and would like to welcome him to the Hawks family."

Just before the NBA trade deadline, Humphries, along with DeJuan Blair and a future first round pick, were sent to the Suns by the Washington Wizards in return for disgruntled forward Markieff Morris, per the Washington Post.

Humphries debuted for the Suns against the Houston Rockets on Feb. 20, racking up 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 116-104 against the Houston Rockets via CBS Sports.

NBA.com reported that the 14th overall draft pick of the 2004 NBA Draft is expected to fill in the slot vacated by Tiago Splitter, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a hip injury.

His arrival gives coach Budenholzer the needed help in the outside shooting and rebounding department. Fansided points out that Humphries is gifted with a good outside touch, averaging 34.3 percent from the three-point arc.

Aside from that, his rebounding skill is another facet that the Hawks can benefit from. The Hawks are tied as the fourth-worst rebounding team in the league to date. Humphries has proven to be a great player off the boards, averaging 11 rebounds per 36 minutes as mentioned by CBS Sports.

With Al Horford, Kyle Korver and Paul Millsap as regular starters, Humphries is likely to come off the bench. He will be jockeying for playing time against other forwards such as Mike Scott and Mike Muscala, according to ESPN.

With the signing official, Humphries is expected to be ready and suited up when the Hawks face the defending champion Golden State Warriors.

The Hawks are currently sitting at fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a 34-26 card. They are just half a game behind the Miami Heat (34-26), but are in a good position to overtake the latter. The fourth spot will hand the team a home-court advantage once the NBA postseason wars start.

Though he isn’t a big name, Humphries is a key acquisition who will hopefully give some boost to the the Atlanta Hawks.
