“Big Hero 6” was a huge hit when it launched in 2014. Currently, there are rumors that Disney is working on the sequel. The latest news revealed that a “Big Hero 6” TV series will begin on Disney XD in 2017.

Production Already Started

Variety reported that production of the TV series has already started. Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley are set to serve as executive producers. The two previously worked on “Kim Possible.”

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world-class animated series – full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob – and Baymax – can deliver,” said Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide.

The TV series will continue the events from the end of the “Big Hero 6” movie. The plot will focus on Hiro and Baymax, as the former studies robotics at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, writes Screen Rant.

Hiro will be shown adjusting to his new school and academic tasks. Other members of the team, namely Wasabi, Hoey-Lemon, Fred and Go-Go, will also appear on the show. "Big Hero 6" will be battling scientifically advanced enemies.

It is still uncertain whether the original voice artists will come back for the TV version.

Disney’s Plan

Recently, Disney has been making TV adaptations of movies. Some of its projects featured the return of popular Disney characters. These include “The Lion Guard” and “Sofia the First," Variety notes.

The “Big Hero 6” TV series is expected launch in 2017. The original movie, which raked $657 million worlwide, followed the adventure of Hiro, who created the robot Baymax 6. Hiro, Baymax and their friends work together to solve a mystery that threatens their city.

“Big Hero 6” would be an ideal choice because of its fun and inspirational characters and great storyline. Running a TV show will also attract viewers for a longer period of time as well as open the opportunity for selling more merchandise.

The “Big Hero 6” TV series will launch worldwide in 2017 on Disney XD. More updates and details are expected soon.
