LeBron James Leads Cavs on 120-103 Win Over Celtics, Passes Duncan for 14th Place
The current NBA season is all about breaking records and all eyes were on the Golden State Warriors with the torrid run. Individually however, the NBA also has many to offer, led no less by LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers who recently overtook Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs in the all time scoring list.
LeBron James has already had a lot of achievements in his NBA career and a lot more is expected to follow.
For someone who is just 31 years of age, James has done it all. He has copped the NBA Most Valuable Player four times (2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013) and has tasted NBA gold twice (2012 and 2013).
His resumé speaks for itself and right now, it all seems about fulfilling his promise -- that of which is to help the Cleveland Cavaliers win the NBA title. But after that, what else? A legacy which includes helping the Cavs win multiple titles?
Another Feather to James’ Cap
James was his usual self against the Boston Celtics, unloading 28 points in their 120-103 triumph last time out. Under normal circumstances, there is nothing eye-catching with the feat since whenever he plays great, the Cavs are bound to win.
On the side however, there was another milestone added to his cap. This was overtaking fellow NBA cager Tim Duncan in the NBA All Time scoring list.
After that game against the Celtics, James is now at the 14th spot with 26,378 total points against Duncan’s 26,366. He is just 17 points down another NBA great, John Havlicek, who has a total of 26,395 points. It is likely that he will surpass the former Boston Celtic great when the Cavs face the Memphis Grizzlies.
James Fetes Duncan
James and Duncan go a long way. Both are best remembered for that 2007 match, where the San Antonio Spurs clashed with the Cavs in the NBA Finals.
The Cavs were swept that year, but Duncan told a young James at the time that he was ready to pass the torch. The only thing is that Duncan didn’t mention that it will happen soon, possibly after this season.
“He's the greatest power forward of all time. If not one of the greatest of all time, period,'' James said of Tim Duncan.
One Last Time?
There is a chance that both could cross paths again if their respective teams hurdle their opponents in their divisions. Of the two, the Spurs may have their work cut out for them since they have to dethrone the Golden State Warriors to make all that happen.
The Cavs are hands-down favorites though they need to make sure they hurdle rising teams like the Toronto Raptors and James’ former team, the Miami Heat. If so, that would be a fitting NBA Finals where the Cavs could get payback for that sweep of 2007.
