Allen Iverson is a former NBA cager that needs no introduction. Standing only 6-feet, he is a one of few small players ever to be named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player back in 2001.

Iverson officially announced his retirement from the NBA in 2013 though he has veered away from the spotlight, claiming he doesn’t even regularly watch the NBA that much like before.

However, he has heard of a kid named Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors and was pretty impressed at what last year’s NBA Most Valuable Player has accomplished so far.

Different and Incredible

In a recent gala for the Sixers Youth Foundation, Iverson and another Philadelphia 76ers great in Julius Ervin were on hand for the evening.

Both were thrown some questions involving the Sixers but somehow touched in Curry at some point. Erving touched on the Warriors as a whole but Iverson placed more focus on Curry and his marvelous run thus far.

“You know that that guy is here. He’s incredible. He’s different. He’s different. He’s something we’ve never seen. We’ve never seen this. It’s crazy to me, like just me being the biggest Michael Jordan fan, to see somebody come around like this. I have my idea of me being incredible, you know what I mean? But this dude right here, like it’s different. It’s a whole different monster, as far as his handle and the way he shoots?”

Best Ball Handler and Player of His Time

Iverson belongs to an elite class of players, and the highlights of his career include his ability to handle the ball well and perhaps the best players of his generation. So weighing in on Curry should say a lot in the future of last year’s NBA MVP.

Iverson is the latest to fete Curry, someone who is seen to be rising still. After going through years of shunning, the 28-year-old player who carries a feathery touch is bound for more glorious years ahead.

Giving Back to Charity and Future Plans

Allen Iverson was in the Philippines in 2014, giving back to the fans through a cause known as the All-in charity basketball game sponsored by PCWORX.

It involved the best collegiate players in the Philippines going up against Team Gawad Kalinga which had former NBA stars like DerMarr Johnson and some Ball Up Streetball All-Stars like “The Professor” and “Bone Collector”.

During a privileged interview, Iverson shed light on a couple of things. That included if he would entertain becoming a head coach.

“That is not a goal I want to achieve. That is not something I think I will be good at” said Iverson when asked if he would be open to a coaching career.

Full-Time Dad

Awards and basketball aside, all Iverson is thinking about right now is devoting his time to his kids.

“I just love being a full time dad. I lost a lot of time playing in the league and traveling all the time. Now I want to be a bigger asset in their lives compared to before because I was too busy playing basketball to secure their lives” he said.
