WWE SmackDown Spoilers for April 14, 2016: Chris Jericho, Sami Zayn in Main Event; Tag Team Tournament Continues
"WWE SmackDown" filmed its latest episode from San Diego, where MizTV opened the show.
MizTV
WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz and his wife Maryse were in the ring and were interrupted by former Intercontinental Champion Zack Ryder. Miz teased giving Ryder another opportunity to fight for the Intercontinental Championship, but the Long Island native is already booked in another match on "SmackDown" -- against NXT alum Baron Corbin. Ryder lost to Corbin in a short match. Despite the win and after the match, Corbin continued to attack Ryder until Dolph Ziggler appeared for the save.
"NXT Arrival" Rematch
In the only women's match during the show, it was a battle between two former NXT cornerstones: Emma and Paige. Emma defeated Paige in a quick match.
Tag-Team Tournament Update
The tag-team tournament to determine the No. 1 contender for New Day's WWE Tag Team Championship continued on "SmackDown" with Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady making their main roster in-ring debut against former NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension. Amore and Big Cass won the match and advanced to the next round, which will likely occur at the next "Monday Night Raw" or "SmackDown" from the United Kingdom.
Later in the show, fellow former NXT Tag Team Champions The Vaudevillians also advanced to the next round.
Styles in Action
Backstage, Alberto Del Rio and AJ Styles had a confrontation. The altercation continued in the ring as Styles fought Del Rio. Styles won, via a roll-up pin, although his neck may have been hurt during the match.
Main Event
A match between Sami Zayn and Chris Jericho is destined to be a guaranteed classic. Jericho and Zayn fought in the main event while Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose were on commentary. Despite an entertaining match, Owens' interference led to the match ending by disqualificaion. In the end, Ambrose and Zayn stood tall against the heels, Jericho and Owens, to conclude "SmackDown."
Due to the WWE starting its tour in Europe, half the roster were not present including WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns, WWE Women's Champion Charlotte, The New Day, Sasha Banks and more.
"WWE SmackDown" airs weekly on Thursdays on the USA Network at 8 p.m. EST.
