Ariana Grande and Rihanna Feud Rumors: Disney Star Insists Diamonds Singer ‘Wasn't Laughing at Me' [Listen]
Ariana Grande has finally addressed the recent feud rumor involving Rihanna -- she now clarifies that the "Diamonds" singer was not being disrespectful at all during her performance at iHeartRadio Music Awards, which took place in L.A. the night of Thursday, May 1.
At the concert in L.A. last week, the 20-year-old singer took to the stage, starting off with her performance of "The Way" before moving onto her current single, "Problem." During her act, Rihanna first seemed uninterested and once Grande started dancing, the 25-year-old singer then burst into laughter for some odd reason. As a result, many viewers who witnessed the moment immediately came to the conclusion that the 26-year-old singer's laughing was intentional, possibly a result of her feuding with Grande, who recently collaborated with her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown on "Don't Be Gone Too Long."
However, Ariana Grande denied all the previous feud speculation during an interview with Australia radio program "The Bump Show" on Monday, May 5. When the host asked the pop star what she thought about Rihanna laughing at her while she was on stage, she responded: "I didn't see her laughing at me, but when I watched it afterwards, it looked like she was just shocked because I was doing something different."
Grande assured listeners that there is no hostility between the two singers and that everything was just made up. "Afterwards, she was so kind to me, she was like, ‘Lil' mama keep doing what you're doing because it's working,'" she said. "I thought it was funny that people tried to make such a commotion out of it when she was just being playful and supportive... People are always trying to make a big deal out of nothing because they're bored."
The rumors are not her main concern right now. Ariana Grande's latest single "Problem" featuring Iggy Azalea reached No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes song chart within 40 minutes of its release.
