2016 Presidential Polls for Indiana and California Show Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton Leading the Field
Donald Trump is clinging to a six point lead over Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the upcoming Indiana Republican primary.
The WTHR/HPI Poll finds overall GOP front-runner Trump at 37 percent, compared to 31 percent for Cruz and 22 percent for Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
With less than two weeks remaining before voting booths open on May 3, pollsters also found Trump has a positive favorability rating among 56 percent of GOP voters in Indiana, vs. 40 percent who see him in an unfavorable light. By comparison, Cruz has a 54 percent favorable rating and is seen in a dim light by 38 percent of GOP voters.
Overall, Kasich has the highest net favorable rating among the three remaining candidates, with 52 percent of voters viewing him positively and 28 percent unfavorably for a net positive rating of 24 percent.
Clinton Leads Sanders Among Democrats
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton has an even smaller lead over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, at 48 percent to 45 percent.
Data shows at 73 percent favorable and 18 percent unfavorable, Sanders has a 55 percent net favorable rating among Democratic voters, compared to 40 percent for Clinton (68 favorable and 28 unfavorable).
A pair of recent polls also found the two overall front-runners holding comfortable leads in the upcoming June 7, California primaries.
With 546 Democratic delegates at stake, a Gravis Marketing survey finds Clinton leading Sanders 47 percent to 41 percent in the Golden State.
Trump Leads in California
On the Republican side, A Capitol Weekly/Sextant Strategies poll found Trump leading Cruz 41 percent to 23 percent with Kasich stuck at 21 percent.
A deeper analysis of the numbers reveals Trump enjoys solid support along the California coast with Baby Boomers and so-called Silent Generation voters splitting heavily in his favor.
A silver-lining for Cruz could be that 69 percent of all his supporters identify as "strong" backers and with 26 percent insisting they gravitated toward him in an effort to stymie Trump's rise.
