A student at Washington and Lee University is making headlines after speaking out for getting kicked out of the school's campus gym because her exercise attire was considered inappropriate.

Dressed in black workout leggings and a black tank top that reveals nothing more than shoulders and features a triangle cut out on the back, the student, identified just as Danielle, was working out when she was told she had to leave the fitness center.

Danielle decided to discuss the matter and the overly conservative dress code with college-oriented media site Total Sorority Move.

She revealed that a female employee came up to her and told her that the top she was wearing was not appropriate and was asked to leave. She also believes that the male fitness center director sent a fellow student to talk to her just to point out her top.

"I'm disappointed. I have witnessed nip slips in that very fitness center when meatheads have trimmed a few too many inches from the sides of their homemade tank tops," Danielle said while pointing out sexist double standards. "But I get kicked out for revealing a triangle in the middle of my back? And on Women's Equal Pay Day?"

The University's Director of Athletics, Jan Hathorn, released a statement on the school's website supporting their dress code policies in response to the incident.

"Our policies apply equally to men and women, and are in place for health and safety reasons, including, but not limited to, preventing skin infections, to agree with best practices of fitness center usage, and to preserve the long-term life of the equipment," she wrote.
