Buying a Mother's Day gift doesn't mean you have to break the bank.

Digital commerce firm SUMO Heavy found Americans averaged $163 per year on Mother's Day gifts, dating back to 2014. Nearly one-third of sales came from online purchases, 24 percent of which came through mobile devices.

Going a little deeper into the study, researchers found $4 billion went to special outings, followed by jewelry ($3.9 billion) and flowers ($2.5 billion). Moms, however, said their preferred gifts are mother's day cards, a cooked dinner, and something homemade.

But this seems like a small offering for a woman who's done so much. She deserves the jewelry, flowers, and then some. Medieval Times - Give mom the royal treatment with a trip to Medieval Times, the renaissance-themed dinner and tournament that spans nine locations nationwide. Mom gets in free with paid admission, using the online code MDWEB16.

The Mother's Day package upgrade gets her a framed photo, a "Royal Highness" sash, and a mimosa or champagne in a souvenir glass.

Mimi's Café - Mom's receive a coupon good for a free entrée on a future visit, valid through May 29.

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse - All moms who dine on Mother's Day receive a $25 gift card good on a future visit.
